Corrugated Manufacturing Process Management Solution

The SheetMaker Advantage: #2 Modern Workflow

Do You Really Meet All the Needs of Your Customers?

As anyone in the industry knows, there are lot sizes anywhere from a few thousands to tens of thousands of sheets. However, requests from customers are changing from long run to short run, extremely short run, and short run quick turnaround. A workflow that was made for long run production cannot be applied to this new breed of orders.

The Problem with Today’s Short Run Production

If a company takes a short run product order and uses large scale production machines, aside from the many costs that will be incurred as a result, much time would be consumed by changing the sets. Also, with very short runs, there are many companies that do not and cannot even consider accepting the order. However, for the sake of a customer that also orders long runs, some companies take short and very short run jobs with no promise of profit. This causes extra work for little to no benefit to the company, causing many worries for management.

A Solution to the Small Lot Production Problem

So, what can be done to solve this problem?
First, as a way of thinking, the short and very short runs are not for the creation of profit, but a necessary obligation to the customer that provide the long run orders. With that said, the most important objective is lowering cost.

There are many causes for cost but an easy example would be using the long run management system to manage short and very short runs as well. For the orders that require a lot of effort to make even a little profit, it goes without saying that eveything must be done to lower cost and create profit.

Making a High-Efficiency Production System with SheetMaker

We made SheetMaker to answer the many inquiries we receive regarding this short run and very short run problem.
By taking full advantage of software (CAD) and hardware (cutting machine), the CAD design can be imported directly to the cutting machine. This makes the manufacturer even more efficient, leaving no worries when faced with a rush order.

Be Able to Make Proposals Using Information from Past Orders

Nomally, it is the veteran company employee who makes the decisions, proposals, and quotations. With SheetMaker’s use of past quotations, the veteran employee doesn’t have to spend so much time working, and, at the same time, less-experienced employees can start making quotations.

The longer an employee works at the production site, the less he is able to concentrate on his job due to fatigue. This is a major cause of on-the-job accidents and injuries. By shortening production time, risk to onsite employees is lowered. From a financial standpoint, this also means less cost for labor as well.
